Here at the Fortescue Academy we provide top educations for
children of the most prominent members of European and American society.
Students are divided into five different cliques. The elites are known as the
Redevance clique. These 10 students are the student council for the entire
school and treated like royalty with absolute power and prestige. The Nouveaux
clique comes from new money, where their parents or grandparents made the
bulk of their wealth. They have a rivalry with the Ancienne clique that are the
descendants of old money. Underneath are the scholarship students or the
Cerveau class. These students have entered the school through academics alone,
because of this they are looked down upon as only being good for their brains,
The outcasts or the Peste clique are those shunned from another clique for
not obeying the code of conduct created by the Redevance.
Shakespeare said that men and women are merely players. The students
are all playing pretend. Pretending that their parents ambitions are theirs,
pretending their wealth is everything and pretending beauty is all that
matters in life. In the end we all play pretend.
